This small family-run ranch is a throwback to how healthy food used to be raised… by tending to individual animals rather than managing feedlot operations. As such, no antibiotics, growth hormones, steroids, or GMOs are used.

Our grass-fed cattle forage on native Colorado grasslands that rise into forests of ponderosa pine. By keeping herd sizes small, it’s possible to maintain a sustainable range that doesn’t stress animals or the land.

Angus Beef

Up Range doesn’t sell meat from a freezer. We raise your Angus until the fall harvest, then deliver it to a local meat processor so you can get your fresh beef cut the way you want.


How it works

In a nutshell, you buy an Angus steer or heifer at any time during the year and your meat will be ready in the fall. Here are the steps:

  1. Pay for your beef with a minimum 50% deposit. Any remaining balance is due when it is taken to the processor in late October.

  2. Choose your meat processor and cuts. Up Range uses local meat processors, but will work with a processor of your choice in the Colorado Springs area for no additional charge. We can also transport to more distant butchers in the region for a transport fee of $100.

  3. Pick up your beef. The processor will notify you when your meat is ready.


Pricing

Current pricing is $2,000 for a full Angus and $650 for processing. (You can deduct the processing fee if you choose to work directly with your own processor). Future pricing is subject to change as market prices fluctuate.

What kind of cattle do you have?
We raise Black Angus (and occasionally Red Angus) steers and heifers.

How is grass-fed beef different?
You’ll likely notice the beef to be leaner and juicier with higher moisture content. According to the National Center for Biotechnology Information, grass-fed beef offers a healthier fatty acid profile and much higher levels of omega 3 and vitamins. Grass-fed beef has also been shown to have fewer calories.

How many pounds of meat do I get?
This depends on several factors, but on average you can expect 400 pounds of meat. This fills a full-sized freezer and is considered a year's worth of meat for a typical family of four who eats beef three times a week.

How much is the beef per pound?
This varies by animal, but costs often average $7.00 per pound.

Can I buy a quarter or a half?
To keep costs low, we prefer to sell full orders. Many buyers choose to split the meat with family or friends. However, if you are interested in a half, contact us to see if we can accommodate your request.

Why are your prices lower than many other ranches?
Simple - our overhead costs are much lower since we don't maintain a frozen meat inventory, use expensive custom packaging, or have employees. And because we fill whole orders that are processed once a year, you can save several dollars per pound, especially compared to grocery store pricing of natural beef.

Are your herds near any commercial/industrial sites where chemicals are used?
No. Up Range pastures consist of natural, untreated grasses and are adjacent to rural prairie or forested land. Unlike many of Colorado’s Front Range cattle ranches, there are no nearby active oil wells or croplands that are treated with fertilizers, pesticides, and insecticides.

Do you have a refund policy?
If you need your money back before processing, we can refund your deposit minus a $200 dollar processing fee.

Do I pick up the meat myself?
Yes, you will pick up your packaged beef from the processor (we can help you choose one). If you’re driving a few hours, covering the boxes with a few heavy blankets should keep it well frozen until you get it to the freezer.
